NAMM 2014: Studiomaster launching Venture Series cabinets

Studiomaster will debut its new Venture Series loudspeakers at NAMM 2014.

The new line is described as an ultra-light, high power, high performance PA range, featuring 12 and 15-inch two-way cabinets and a matched 18-inch sub, available in both 1,000-Watt active and passive models. The speakers are performance and cost competitive with the best comparable product on the market, and offer best-in-class power to weight specifications, the company claims, with the 12- and 15-inch active cabs weighing in at just 18 and 21.5 kgs respectively.

The internally-braced industrial-grade nine-ply cabinets are finished in wear-resistant black textured coating, with a steel front grille. A 60° rear bevel allows the Class-D bi-amplified two-way cabs to double up as stage monitors, and they can deliver a total of 600 Watts RMS power to the bass and HF drivers, with a peak system power rating of 1000 Watts. They are capable of providing a smooth frequency response and highly accurate crossover points, and have the ability to deliver good sound quality at high SPLs, in excess of 130dB.

“The performance and quality of the Venture Series matches any 1,000-Watt compact PA speaker currently available, and at a very competitive price," said Studiomaster’s director of R&D, Paul Belcher. "We engaged in a long testing programme in developing the final design, and the resultant performance of the range has far exceeded our original design objectives. The sound quality is exceptional for a compact, lightweight cabinet."

An efficient switch-mode power supply delivers ample reserve power for the Class-D amps, and neodymium magnets are used in all the active cabinets’ drivers. The one-inch HF compression drivers are equipped with light alloy diaphragm and copper clad aluminium voice coil as well.

The active cabinets come with a two-channel rear panel mixer section – one channel with balanced XLR mic and quarter-inch jack line inputs, and the other with balanced XLR and stereo phono line level inputs. An XLR LINK line level output allows additional speaker cabinets to be connected. Master level and channel level controls, as well as green power-on and red peak LEDs are included, too. The 18SA sub has a balanced XLR input, a 100Hz hi pass-filtered XLR output (to the mid/high cab) and XLR LINK output.

Customers also get a pole mount and M10 hanging fixings, along with fully recessed carry handles.

The passive cabs offer the same construction and sound performance characteristics, and are rated at 800 Watts program and 1,600 Watts peak power handling. Speakon NL4 connectors are included throughout.
