Renowned Japanese producer chooses Genelec monitors

Japanese music producer Masato Suzuki has added a pair of Genelec 8050A two-way monitors to his Tokyo studio set-up.

Suzuki has teamed up with numerous big-name artists in the Japanese hip-hop/R&B scene in the past, including Muro, DJ Hazime, Misia, Namie Amuro and Daichi Miura, as well as Kat DeLuna and Ahmir from outside Japan.

Offering high-end outboard gear, turntables, and vintage rhythm machines, Suzuki’s studio is where he does all of his composing, track making, recording, mixing, and mastering.

“The Genelec’s clean bass provides a clearer perspective that enables me to control low frequencies with ease,” Suzuki said. “Since mid-low registers are very important in hip-hop, R&B, and dance music, this helps me a lot. Furthermore, Genelec speakers have a flat frequency response and are true to original sounds. This is very useful in the mastering process and everything flows more smoothly.

"Before installing the Genelecs I frequently worked with headphones. But now I have 8050A, I am increasingly using the speakers in mastering, too.”

Suzuki tried out a number of speakers from other companies before picking the 8050A. According to Genelec, the brand’s users often talk about how they are able to work without the interference of speaker specific sounds, which is what Suzuki wanted from his new monitors.

Genelec is available in the UK through HHB Communications.
