Rising Stars: Lester Page

It’s Monday morning, which can only mean one thing; a brand new addition to our Rising Stars focus.

This week we chat to FOH engineer Lester Page…

Where did you study?
I graduated from Webster University in May 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Audio Production.

Which band/project are you currently working on?
I am currently the FOH engineer for J. Cortez & Grace Productions as one of my main acts. I am also the full time engineer for the James Ward Band (jazz/funk/soul/ band).

Where are you based/working at the moment?
I am in Lenexa, KS.

Which audio console are you currently using? And how many channels?
I am currently using the Yamaha M7CL-48 as my main console, using 42 channels with pro tools playback or IZ Technology Radar playback and Aviom IEM’s.

What decision process was behind the choice of this console?
The decision behind the console was that someone was selling one that had previously been on a road tour. I received an excellent deal on it, learned its functionality and nuances and have been in love with it ever since.

Do you use any outboard effects/EQ, and if so, what are they used on and why?
Yes, two things so don’t laugh. I have an Alesis Midiverb 4 that I have had since 1999. I use that as my main FX processor and I love the delay settings on it. Secondly, for my auto-tune effect, I use one of the FX in Apple’s Garageband software. There is an effect that emulates auto-tune. I just set up a bus and return between the console and the computer and that’s my autotune effect.

What is your console of choice?
I think my new console of choice is the Allen & Heath iLive. It’s a great sounding board, it is durable, lightweight, and the colours look cool with the house lights off. It is also easy to setup and programme. Also, when I have small gigs and don’t need a bunch of stuff, I always use the Presonus StudioLive 24. It’s an excellent utility board. The guys at Presonus produced a wonderful product.

If you could tour with any band/artist who would it be?
If I could tour with any band or artist I would like to tour with Kierra Sheard. Her concerts and music are really fun and energetic.
