AES 2015: Barefoot MicroMain26 making show debut

Barefoot Sound is using the 139th AES Convention in New York City to introduce its new MicroMain26 (MM26) monitor, based on the manufacturer’s MicroMain27 Gen2 platform.

The MM26 is designed to ‘raise performance to new highs’ with the addition of the company’s ‘transparent and detailed’ 2.5" aluminum cone midrange.

A four-way active system with six drive units housed in sealed enclosures spanning 30Hz to 45kHz with low distortion, the new monitor promises ‘remarkable dynamic range and ultra-fast transient response.’ The ring radiator tweeter is exceptionally detailed and produces very wide dispersion out to its highest frequencies. according to the firm.

Its 2.5-inch aluminum cone midrange is housed in a 3D-printed waveguide enclosure. The 5.25-inch woofers feature ‘a phalanx of advanced technology,’ yielding upper bass and lower midrange detail that Barefoot claims ‘rivals any driver in history.’

There are four modes with the MM26: the ‘brutally revealing’ Flat response, the warmer and sweeter Hi-Fi setting, the Old School option that emulates the sound of the Yamaha NS10M nearfield, while Cube is an emulation of the mid-centric sound of classic mix cubes.
