Beyerdynamic launches the DT 990 PRO X

Beyerdynamic has unveiled the DT 990 PRO X, an evolutionary update of their beloved DT 990 Pro reference headphone, now featuring a sleek detachable cable, advanced driver system, and enhanced user‑centric design.

Breaking from tradition, the DT 990 PRO X introduces a 3‑metre mini‑XLR to 3.5 mm detachable cable, complete with an included 6.35 mm adapter. This update aims to provide seamless versatility across desktop setups, mobile rigs, or studio consoles.

Beyerdynamic has overhauled its famed open‑back dynamic drivers, enhancing transient response and spatial resolution while preserving its signature critical listening clarity. Though core tuning remains faithful to the original, the X‑series iteration refines audio performance with better frequency consistency and lower distortion levels .

Beyond internals, the PRO X inherits its rugged, repair‑ready chassis but gains easier maintenance thanks to the detachable cable. The combo of replacement cables and modular design aims to enhance long-term serviceability and reduced downtime.

With a slightly premium price point above the legacy model, the DT 990 PRO X targets sound engineers, producers, and audiophiles seeking an adaptable and future‑proofed reference headphone.

“Most home producers have studio monitors they use to check their mixes,” says Product Manager Kevin Nietsch. “With the DT 990 PRO X, we give you a precise tool—an acoustic magnifying glass that lets you peer deep into any mix—an ideal complement to existing studio monitors.”
