BVE 2016: Source debuting new RØDE gear

Leading UK distributor Source Distribution will have a comprehensive selection of RØDE broadcast microphones on demonstration at this year’s BVE Show, alongside the Genelec 8000 and 8300 series of active studio monitors and the brand new iOgrapher line of filmmaking cases for iOS devices.

Making their UK debut are the RØDE VideoMicro and VideoMic Me miniature shotgun microphones, and the Boompole Pro telescopic boompole.

80mm in length and weighing in at 42gm, the VideoMicro is a compact all metal shotgun microphone that, while directional, has a very forgiving pick up pattern for a natural, open sound. Powered by the camera’s own plug-in power, it comes with an integral camera shoe mount that includes a Rycote Lyre shockmount for minimising vibration – making the VideoMicro best suited for use with point-and-shoot DSLRs, smart phones and tablets.

Also on display at BVE will be the tiny VideoMic Me model, which connects directly to a smartphone’s TRRS microphone/headphone socket. Its flexible mounting bracket allows it to be fitted for primary camera or front camera ‘selfie’ use. The VideoMic Me comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack which allows for play-through of audio while recording, and a furry windshield for outside recording.

The Boompole Pro is a lightweight carbon fibre telescopic 3m boompole, weighing 535gm. Each section can be extendable with one hand due to a twist-lock mechanism, and users can either secure their audio cable to the Boompole Pro using optional cable clips, or choose to work wirelessly by fitting a RØDELink wireless XLR adaptor to their boompole-mounted shotgun microphone.

Visitors to Source’s BVE surround sound listening room can hear models from the Genelec 8300 series of Smart Active Monitors (SAM) – intelligent loudspeakers which are designed to adapt automatically and accurately to any acoustic environment. The room will feature an ‘Immersive Sound System’ comprising 11 of the 8320 SAM monitors plus a 7260 subwoofer, and will showcase the ability of the system to calibrate itself for level, timing and equalisation.

Completing Source’s booth are the brand new range of iOgrapher filmmaking cases which allow iOS and other devices to be mounted together with lenses, lighting and audio gear to create lightweight and compact filmmaking packages.

Source Distribution can be found on Booth K46 at the BVE Show, ExCel London February 23rd – 25th.
