Harman reveals SM Pro Audio acquisition

Harman has announced its acquisition of Melbourne, Australia-based SM Pro Audio, which has now been incorporated into the company’s Professional Division.

SM Pro Audio started out in 2001 designing mic preamps, DI units and headphone amplifiers, before widening its offering to include microphones, signal processors and what it calls "problem solver gadgets." In 2004 it introduced M-Patch, which allowed users to control the volume of active monitors. The series has since been expanded to suit a multitude of applications.

“I am very pleased to welcome the SM Pro Audio team to the Harman fold. Together, we look forward to bringing a new depth of innovation to the broadest array of customers around the world,” Harman Professional Division president Blake Augsburger commented. “To that point, we have already envisioned ideas and concepts where SM Pro Audio products and technologies could benefit Soundcraft and Studer mixers, dbx signal processing, AKG transducers and more.

"We expect to introduce Harman products that feature SM Pro Audio technology in early 2015, including previews of two groundbreaking Soundcraft mixing products at NAMM 2015.”
