IBC: European debut for DTS:X

DTS will demonstrate DTS:X, its new object-based, multi-dimensional audio technology for immersive experiences for the first time in Europe at IBC 2015 in Amsterdam later this month.

According to the American company, DTS:X conveys the fluid movement of sound to create ‘an incredibly rich, realistic and immersive soundscape – in front of, behind, beside and above the audience – more accurately than ever before.’

DTS:X promises the ability to automatically adapt the audio to the speaker layout that best fits the space, from a TV’s built-in speakers or home surround theatre system to a dozen or more speakers in a commercial cinema.

Brands such as Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer, Trinnov Audio and Yamaha have agreed to launch DTS:X-enabled products in the near future.

The California firm has also announced that Lionsgate Films has committed to exhibit several upcoming major films in the DTS:X format. These include American Ultra, Sicario (18 September) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (13 November).

The above titles have been/will be mixed using the DTS MDA Creator Tool, DTS’ license fee-free, open platform for the creation of object-based immersive audio, and will be exhibited in a number of select DTS:X-equipped theatres in the US.

The Muvico 14 in Thousand Oaks, California is the first to feature DTS:X sound.

IBC will take place at Amsterdam RAI from 11-15 September 2015.
