NAMM 2014: Genelec adds ultra-compact model to 8000 Series

Genelec has unveiled 8010 – now the smallest member of the 8000 range of studio monitors.

The company’s 8000 Series speakers can be found in broadcast, music and post-production studios all over the world. This new addition is ideal for professional work in smaller studios, offering accurate monitoring capability and easy installation. Its high sound quality also makes it suitable for OB vans, as well as a perfect companion for portable recording devices.

Features include a balanced XLR input, three-inch bass driver, 3/4-inch tweeter and efficient Class D power amplifiers – one for each driver – while Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) circuitry conserves energy by putting the monitor to sleep when the audio signal has been absent for a short period. Once a signal is detected again, the monitor wakes up automatically. This circuitry can be bypassed if the automatic standby function is not needed.

A full range of accessories is available for 8010 – covering all mounting requirements – such as the L-shaped table stand, which can be used to optimise monitor orientation toward the listening position and reduce unwanted sound reflections.

The 8010 has been given a UK RRP of £249; the release date is yet to announced.

Genelec will be showing off the new model at NAMM 2014 (Hall A, Stand 6220).
