NAMM 2016: Fostex expands headphone offering

Fostex introduced two new sets of premium stereo headphones at the NAMM Show 2016: the TR Series (pictured) and TH-900mk2.

The TR Series has a new 40mm Fostex dynamic headphone driver and specially tuned housings, offering 5Hz to 35kHz response, ‘smooth and accurate’ sound reproduction and highly flexible configuration.

The TR Series makes use of Fostex’ signature slider bars and there are three distinct models to suit different listening preferences. The TR-70 has a fully open design; the TR-80 has a fully closed-back; and the TR-90 has a semi-open design. Each model is available in an 80-ohm version for studio and production use, and a 250-ohm version for studio and critical listening (Hi-Fi).

Each TR Series headphone comes standard with two detachable cables (coiled and straight), a 1/4in to 3.5mm adapter and both regular and extra-thick ear pads, and is available for immediate shipment at $199.99 (MAP) each.

Then there is the TH-900mk2, an upgrade of the widely-acclaimed TH-900, offering the same features as its predecessor with the addition of a detachable cable system and an optional four-pin balanced cable for improved dynamic range.

According to Fostex, the TH-900mk2’s neodymium magnet and unique Biodyna diaphragm provide high-resolution audio reproduction at any sound level. Its rigid, non-resonant housing and its leather cups offer maximum comfort and acoustic isolation.

The TH-900mk2’s detachable cable system allows quick replacement of a worn cable. A gold-plated 1/4in TRS headphone cable is standard while an optional four-pin, gold-plated XLR cable allows the use of a high-performance, balanced drive headphone amplifier.

The TH-900mk2 headphones will be available for sale in March of 2016 at $1,499.99 (MAP).
