NAMM Executive Committee

NAMM makes new appointments to executive committee

NAMM (The National Association of Music Merchants) has elected a new Executive Committee that includes the organisation’s former Vice Chair, and Menchey Music Service CEO, Joel Menchey.

Announced just before the start of Summer NAMM 2021, the new committee will see Menchey step up to the position of Chair of the NAMM Board of Directors.

The Board also elected Tom Sumner, President of Yamaha Corporation of America, as Vice Chair, while President of White House of Music Chris White was elected Treasurer, and Barbara Wight, CFO of Taylor Guitars, was chosen as Secretary of the Executive Committee.

Speaking about his election to Chair, Menchey said:“It has been an honor to serve as NAMM’s Vice Chair for the past two years, and while many things have changed, I look forward to continuing to work with the Board of Directors to serve the organization’s mission, vision, and objectives, and to bolster the industry and continue to share the joy of music-making with the world.”

On Wight’s appointment to the Executive Committee, he said: “Barbara was the obvious candidate to serve in this leadership capacity at NAMM. Her deep industry knowledge, financial acumen, and expertise will help lead the Executive Committee and the industry at large.”

Wight said:“It is a great privilege to serve the industry in this official capacity. At this pivotal time, I look forward to working alongside the Board of Directors and contributing on behalf of all NAMM members worldwide.”

The appointments to the NAMM Board of Directors Executive Committee will be effective at the close of Summer NAMM.

It was recently announced that, NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond will to step down as the leader of the 120-year-old trade association as of spring 2023.

“Serving our global membership and working with the talented NAMM team has been an absolute honor,” said Lamond. “However, I’ve always thought of my life in terms of chapters, the musician and touring chapter, the music retail chapter, this amazing NAMM chapter, and now perhaps one more mountain ahead left to climb. One thing is for sure, we’re going to take the time to get this transition right. We are committed to finding the best possible CEO for NAMM, one who can lead this great organization and industry and serve our global membership in the years ahead.”
