Propellerhead pulls plug on ReBirth for good after Roland IP claim

Propellerhead has announced it has decided to discontinue ReBirth for iPad today following a statement from Roland that the product infringes on its intellectual property rights.

The Swedish firm has explained that "rather than refuting this claim, we have decided to honor our long-standing relationship with Roland Corporation, and have therefore come to the conclusion that the best path forward is to discontinue the product."

ReBirth for iPad is the last remaining version of the software synthesizer originally launched for PC and Mac in 1997, which emulated Roland’s TB-303 and TR-808 synths, along with the TR-909 drum machine, and was discontinued for desktop computers in 2005.

ReBirth was then reborn for iPhone in 2010, lasting until 2013, but the iPad version has kept going until Roland’s intervention – some 20 years after the original release.

15 June 2017 is the last day to get a copy before it really does disappear permanently.

Propellerhead is also known for other software lines such as Reason, which recently introduced VST support in its latest version 9.5 update.
