QSC introduces K Cardioid sub, expands E Series

As QSC approaches the celebration of nearly one million K Family loudspeakers sold since their introduction in 2009, the company has announced the newest member of the family, the K Cardioid Subwoofer.

Two new models have also been added to the company’s E Series loudspeaker line, first introduced one year ago at NAMM 2016. The E218SW dual 18-inch subwoofer and E215 dual 15-inch full-range cabinet (pictured above) now bring the model count of the series to six.

The K Cardioid Subwoofer provides all the benefits of a cardioid subwoofer array but in a single, compact enclosure, while the E218SW sub features two 18in die-cast frame woofers with 4in voice coils designed to meet the high-output, low frequency reproduction requirements of production professionals in larger indoor or outdoor venue applications.

“Keeping bass in its place” for mobile entertainers, AV production and rental professionals, as well as modestly-sized performance venues, the K Cardioid Subwoofer (pictured below) is able to manage low frequencies on a stage, or any application where undesirable low frequency energy needs to be minimised.

Powered by a 1,000 Watt Class D amplifier, processed with the latest DSP technology, and featuring dual 12in long excursion drivers each arranged in a 6th order bandpass chamber, these elements all combine to produce 15 dB more output at the front of the cabinet than at the rear. Highly portable, the cabinet features comfortable, aluminium handles and four, rear-mounted casters. Two M20 sockets are provided to accept a 35mm speaker pole in either vertical or horizontal deployment of the sub.

Meanwhile, power handling of the E218SW sub is 1800W continuous (6400W peak), delivering 132 dB Max SPL and LF extension down to 32 Hz @ -10 dB. The E215 full-range loudspeaker features dual 15in LF drivers (3.5in voice coil) and utilises a frequency-shading topology, minimising vertical lobing through the HF crossover transition. A large format 1.4in (2.8in voice coil) device provides transparent high frequency reproduction.

Offering 1200W continuous (4800W peak) power handling, QSC’s Directivity Matched Transition (DMT) for uniform frequency response across the entire 75-degree coverage area, and enhanced LF extension (down to 40 Hz), the E215 is ideally suited for customers seeking enhanced output and LF extension from a single passive box solution.

The K Cardioid subwoofer will have an estimated US street price of $1,399 and is expected to be available in the first half of 2017. Additionally, the E218SW will have an estimated US street price of $1,199 while that of the E215 is expected to be $999. Both models will ship in the Spring of 2017.
