Tony Andrews joins PLASA speaker roster

PLASA has made yet another spate of additions to the speaker line-up for its upcoming London show (4-6 October 2015).

Those new to the program include Tony Andrews (pictured), founder of loudspeaker manufacturer Funktion-One. Having spent his life exploring the higher possibilities in audio, Andrews will host a session titled Audio and Consciousness, where he will no doubt look to take an audio path less travelled while considering the difference between hearing and listening.

Another highlight is sure to be Your Aural Toolkit: a Guide to Preserving your Hearing for Sound Professionals, presented by Annie Jamieson, post-doctoral researcher at the University of Leeds, which will discuss how to properly take care of your hearing.

“Working in sound, your sense of hearing is your greatest asset,” said Jamieson. “But your work with sound has the potential to threaten it. In this session, I’ll be talking about how your hearing works and the ways it can be damaged by over-exposure to sound, as well as discussing hearing protection solution and practical advice and strategies.”

Sophie Atkinson, PLASA Show content manager, added: “We’ve got a rich and varied programme at this year’s PLASA Show. We’re covering topics that are vital for our industry and some that are more esoteric. Tony Andrews, for example, has contributed to many of our sessions over the years. He explores areas that stray away from the mainstream and grab attention, and are always incredibly popular, so make sure you register early!”

Last month, PLASA also confirmed there will be sessions from Britannina Row Productions and the IPS, as well as the first experts due to feature in the Professional Development Programme, such as Olympics audio systems director Scott Willsallen.
