We Make Events opens online Speakeasy

The We Make Events campaign has opened a new online Speakeasy, offering workshops, support session and fireside chats from November 30-January 8.

The new virtual space will offer a variety of sessions aimed at helping industry professionals develop their skills and cope with the challenges so many have faced in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic. There will also be fireside conversations with industry icons, as well as entertainment in the form of quizzes and Q&As.

Among the various interviews and sessions currently scheduled is a conversation between former Cirque du Soleil artists Laura-Ann Chong and Andy Buchanan, advice on motivation through COVID, as well as technical sessions covering topics such as COVID health and safety for events, temporary power and site electrics, and an introduction to noise management for events.

Throughout December there will be a quiz night every Monday, weekly yoga classes with Becky Pell of Rock ‘n’ Roll Yogi and regular live music – including DJ sets with Martin Audio managing director Dom Harter. There will also be programme highlights from PLASA Online, PLASA’s recent online programme.

More sessions and events will be added over the coming weeks.

We Make Events was founded to raise awareness and generate support for events workers whose livelihoods have been severely impacted by the pandemic. More than 30 million people across the globe work in live events, the majority of which have not worked since the coronavirus outbreak. Many remain unsure as to when their work will return. So far, We Make Events has held a number of activities and days of action to highlight the urgency of the situation, including the lighting up of international landmarks and venues of cultural importance and various gatherings lobbying government for greater support.
