Zoom announces PodTrack P4 multitrack podcast recorder

Zoom has announced the PodTrak P4, a new portable multitrack recorder designed for podcast production.

Weighing in at just 0.23kg, the compact Bluetooth recorder combines mixer, mic inputs and headphone outputs, everything you need to record podcasts in fact (with the exception of microphones), in an easily portable package.

The PodTrak P4 records to SD/SDHC/SDXC cards (up to 512 GB) in 16-bit /44.1kHz WAV format.  All input sources can be recorded simultaneously on separate tracks.

The P4 has four +48 V phantom-powered XLR inputs, each with their own mute buttons and control knobs, providing gain up to 70 dB, and four corresponding front-mounted 3.5 mm stereo mini headphone outputs, again with individual volume controls. Four assignable stereo sound pads can trigger 11 on-board sounds. You can upload your own sound effects from an SD card.

For remote contributions, the PodTrak P4 can record phone conversations, via TRRS cable or Bluetooth, using the optional Zoom BTA-2 Bluetooth Transmitter/Receiver; an Apple Lightning to USB camera adapter is required for iPhone users. A mix-minus feature counters echo and feedback when recording remote calls.

The P4 will run up to four hours on a pair of AA batteries or can be powered externally by a USB Type-C cable as well as an AC adaptor. Zoom also sells the partnering Zoom ZDM-1 Podcast Mic pack, for a complete podcast solution.

The Zoom PodTrak P4 will be available from September.
