Crookwood Kickstarts portable ‘pro-sumer’ speaker

Crookwood, a manufacturer known for its pro-audio mastering and recording equipment, launched its new ‘pro-sumer’ Soundbucket Bluetooth portable speaker on Kickstarter last month, and hit it’s £12,500 crowdfunding target yesterday with six days still remaining.

As only one in five campaigns reach their Kickstarter goal on average, the boutique audio company can consider this a real achievement.

According to Crookwood, the SoundBucket was created from scratch to meet pro-audio standards, and deliver ‘excellent frequency response, loudness and distortion specs,’ but in a compact cylindrical shape.

The speakers, which offer up to 50 hours of battery life, were designed like a real Hi-Fi speaker with a large woofer and small tweeter, and, unusually, a pure analogue path. The result is a ‘great, detailed, clean sound, ready for hi-res audio players’, the firm says.

A pro version will also be available for personal studio/DJ/presentation use that uses the same speaker, but without the Bluetooth connections.

Kickstarter was chosen as a route to attract new a new consumer audience, and also to bypass the need to access Bank funds, which can be a problem for small companies.

The SoundBuckets have their own website, soundbuckets.com, and the Kickstarter campaign will continue running until 15 July 2015, offering discounts on regular pricing.
