NAMM 2016: New Studio 192 Mobile from PreSonus

PreSonus has used the 2016 NAMM Show to announce its Studio 192 Mobile USB 3.0 22 x 26 audio interface, as well as the StudioLive AVB Mix Systems, a range of new advanced networked solution for live mixing; and the ULT-series active loudspeakers.

The Studio 192 Mobile features the same high-end audio, low latency monitoring, tight software integration, and ‘studio command centre functionality’ introduced in the Studio 192 audio interface but in a smaller form factor suitable for both mobile and studio use.

It records at up to 192 kHz and comes equipped with two digitally-controlled XMAX Class A, solid-state mic preamps and premium Burr-Brown converters with 118 dB of dynamic range. There are also 18 channels of digital I/O, making it easy to add up to 16 additional remote-controlled microphone preamps when expanded with two DigiMax DP88 A/D/A converters.

Like the original model, Studio 192 Mobile was designed to provide more than just abundant I/O and an ‘impeccable sounding’ front end. It’s also built to be the central command centre of a studio, with talkback control, Mono and Dim for the main mix output, word clock I/O, a dedicated DAC for the headphone output, and the ability to use its six balanced outputs for monitor mixing or speaker switching.

StudioLive AVB Mix Systems

Combine one or two StudioLive RM-series rack mixers, a StudioLive CS18AI Ethernet/AVB control surface and integrated control, recording, and production software. Scalable, fully recallable, networked over AVB Ethernet and tightly integrated with the included software, the StudioLive AVB Mix Systems put the user’s I/O in an onstage, rack-mount mixing system with an integrated recording interface, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet networking, while providing an advanced control surface at front-of-house with 18 touchsensitive, motorised faders and 4×2 I/O.

Four systems are available: the StudioLive AVB 16AI Mix System with one RM16AI mixer; StudioLive AVB 32AI with one RM32AI; StudioLive AVB 48AI with one of each RM model, cascaded to form a 48-input, 64-channel system; and StudioLive AVB 64AI, with two cascaded StudioLive RM32AIs for a 64-input system. There is also the option to start with a single-mixer AVB Mix System and expand it later by cascading a second RM-series mixer. Both mixers in a cascaded AVB Mix System can be controlled from the StudioLive CS18AI and from UC Surface touch-control software.

ULT-series active loudspeakers

Offer ‘the widest horizontal dispersion of any loudspeaker in their class’, along with a focused vertical dispersion for an ultralong throw. The result is even coverage throughout the space, PreSonus says, enabling the audience to hear clearly wherever they are. Designed for both mobile use and permanent installations by PreSonus’ WorxAudio commercial loudspeaker division, the series includes the ULT12 and ULT15 full-range systems, as well as the ULT18 subwoofer.

The full-range ULT12 and ULT15 feature the manufacturer’s rotatable Pivot X110 horn and a 12/15in, low-frequency driver with a 2.5in voice coil. Both speakers are biamped and driven by a powerful 1,300W (peak) Class D amplifier. The ULT12 generates up to 132 dB SPL, and the ULT15 delivers up to 136 dB SPL.

A Pivot X110 constant-directivity, rotatable horn ensures ultra-wide horizontal coverage (110°) with focused vertical dispersion (50°) for ‘superior throw.’ The result is a loudspeaker designed to fill the room without introducing early reflections that muddy the sound. In addition, the Pivot X110 horn’s large size (11 x 11in) enables it to control the dispersion pattern lower in the frequency range than smaller conventional horns, so it maintains more consistent gain on- and off-axis – meaning the audience at the sides has the same listening experience as those in front – according to PreSonus.
