Sonoblok Closure Confirmed

Bernat Padros, Managing Director of audio post production facility Sonoblok has confirmed to Audio Media that the studio is to close after 44 years as one of the top European post production and dubbing houses.

The facility will continue to operate for the next three to six months in order to complete current mixing projects.

Sonoblok first opened in 1969 with a sound studio and film lab. In 1977 the studio moved premises as it took on bigger film dubbing jobs. in 2002 it moved again, to a new 4000 square meter facility in the District 22 media development in Barcelona. To date, Sonoblok has produced more than 2,900 cinematic titles, and more than 10,000 hours of television.

In March last year Sonoblok created one of the first IMM Sound (objective / 3D audio format) mix rooms – Studio 1 – with a 23.1 monitor configuration, IMM Sound IAW, Pro Tools, and an AMS Neve Gemini console. Soon after, in July 2012, IMM Sound was acquired by Dolby Laboratories so that the technical expertise and property could be used to further it’s new Atmos object-based format. Of course, this also meant end of the IMM Sound platform.
